Cause
Can be caused due to a missing or corrupt installation of Microsoft .NET Framework 2 on the computer or corrupt Microsoft update for .NET Framework.
Solution:
To resolve this issue, there are two possible solutions to repair and install Microsoft .NET Framework depending on your version of Windows.
Although not exactly the same error message and solution, the following Microsoft web site may give clues of what to do https://support.microsoft.com/kb/926804
Suggestion 1 for Windows 7, Windows 8, Window 8.1 or Windows 10:
- Ensure you have closed all programs
- Click on the Start menu, choose All Programs, then Accessories, then right-click on the Command Prompt item and select Run as administrator
- Click Continue to authorize opening a command prompt with administrative privileges
- Run (type) this command in the cmd prompt: sfc /scannow
- The cmd prompt should list text stating "Beginning system scan. This process will take some time."
- Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes so be patient). This command will scan all protected system files and replace incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions
- When the scan completes, the SFC tool will indicate whether or not it found any problems and whether or not it was able to fix them
Suggestion 2 for Windows XP:
Uninstall and reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework components. You may also need to repair other versions of Microsoft .NET Framework.
Details are provided in Microsoft web site: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/306160
If you are using Windows 7 or higher OS, do not uninstall .NET Framework, repair the .NET Framework 2.0 installation instead. You can download a Microsoft
.NET Framework repair tool from Microsoft's web site:
