Andica File by Internet process cannot access the internet. Either the Firewall is blocking access or the internet is not connected

I am getting a message "Dial up network is not configured" submitting returns using File by Internet.

Firewall Message box "File by Internet process cannot access the internet" appears when submitting returns.

I am on broadband but I am getting a message "File by Internet process cannot access the internet" (or other similar messages) when I attempt to submit returns online using File by Internet feature.

When using the 'File by Internet' feature, Andica software has to communicate with Government Gateway servers to submit your returns online to HMRC. Andica Software will utilise any of your 'open' internet connection to send and receive data, passing through your system security. In majority of cases customers will not need to do anything for this process to complete.

Some firewall may give you a security warning such as "Andica software is attempting to connect to the internet" with options such as "Always allow", "Allow this time" and "Deny", you should select "Always allow". That is all you will need to do.

In rare instances firewall on your system and routers and some system settings may block the software from communicating and establishing connection with the servers.

In such instances when the software is blocked, customer may get a message such as:

"File by Internet process cannot access the internet. Either the Firewall is blocking access or the internet is not connected. Please check your settings and repeat this process." Or,
"The download of the specified resource has failed." Or,
"Unable to connect to server, check if the server URL is correct" Or,

"Dial up network is not configured"

These occur when your computer security settings and firewall blocks the software from sending and receiving data over the internet using your existing broadband (or other) internet connection. The software is simply capturing Windows message and reporting the issue to you.

Most of the software or hardware firewall will provide you an option to allow or deny a software access to send and receive data over the internet. If you are familiar with this routine, please make the necessary changes, if not then please consult your firewall provider for configuration. The software user guide provides brief information about this.

Please do not disable your firewall.

Also please check the following:

Is your computer sitting behind a corporate firewall?

In this case you will need to consult your System Administrator.

In this case you will need to consult your System Administrator.

Does your internet router (wired or wireless) provide some sort of firewall protection? Most of the latest routers provide firewall protection that can be configured through the router control panel. Consult your router manufacturer or guide to enable access.

In rare circumstances, you may need to configure the firewall to allow the software to communicate with the following domain:

andica.com
hmrc.gov.uk

gateway.gov.uk

Check your Proxy settings in Internet Explorer, if you have any Proxy settings try submission with and without these Proxy settings in Internet Explorer. If you are not using internet explorer, temporarily set internet explorer as your default browser.

Also, in very few number of cases, where the system date is not the current date, some systems and internet/firewall routers can block the submission process. Please check and adjust your system date if it is not already set to the current date and time.

Are you using an old router with old router driver that your Windows Operating System does not support? Contact your ISP for advice.

If you are getting a message relating to 'server certificate' or 'The download of the specified resource has failed.' un-tick the 'Check for server certificate revocation' option in your browser's Internet Options - Advanced tab.

If Microsoft Internet Explorer is not your current browser, start it and temporarily set it to be you default browser. Here's how to do this:

In Internet Explorer browser, change the 'Check for server certificate revocation' option.
  1. Double-click the icon for Internet Explorer on your desktop to open the program.
  2. Click on the Tools drop down and select "Internet Options."
  3. Go to the Advanced tab.
  4. Scroll to the Security section under Settings and look for the "Check for Server Certificate Revocation" option.
  5. Remove tick in the box to disable the option.

Most internet routers also have some form of firewall, change the certificate revocation option in there as well.
