Submitting Amended Tax Returns - CT600 Corporation Tax Returns Software

Andica CT600 Corporation Tax Returns Software provides feature to submit amendment to the original returns already submitted to HMRC.

Customers can make changes or correct mistakes to their tax returns and submit an amended return through the software regardless of where the original tax return was submitted from and how it was submitted.

An amended tax return should only be submitted if you want to modify the original return that has been recorded by HMRC within their system.

Brief explanation of an Original and Amended tax return .

Submitting Amended tax returns where the original return has been accepted by HMRC:

Once you have submitted your original tax return and that tax return has already been accepted and recorded within the HMRC system, the tax return can be modified or errors corrected if necessary.

You will have to submit a full set of returns including the amendments you want to make.

Summary below is provided on assumption that the software for accounting period for which you want to send amended returns has been installed and is accessible on your computer. Also note that HMRC may have deadlines for submission of amended returns.

Data entry fields provided:

  1. Start the software and open the record for which you want to submit an amended return.

  2. On the 'Company Information' screen, select the Accounting Period you want to amend, click 'Edit Period' and select 'Tax return type' of 'Amended'

You should only do this if you have previously successfully submitted your returns and HMRC have recorded the original submission in their system and you now want to resubmit the returns with an amendment to the earlier returns.

  3. Enter or modify tax return details from the start and check all the entries, making any amendments you require. Navigate by clicking 'Next' and 'Finish' on all sections and review your returns and reports.

  4. Access the 'File By Internet' routine using one of the methods described in the user guide.

  5. (If you have marked the 'Tax return type' of 'Amended' as in step 2 above, then on the 'File By Internet' screen, the 'Amended Return' option will show a tick)

  6. If you had used this software for 'Live submission' of the original tax return and the submission was successfully accepted by HMRC, you will get a message "Your tax return may have already been submitted using the Live submission. Click OK to Preview, Print or Clear the earlier submission receipt. Click Cancel to abort this submission process." Click OK.

  7. A 'File by internet details' screen will be displayed with submission receipt of the last submission. Ensure the correct submission receipt is selected.

  8. Click 'Clear' and confirm 'Yes' on the message box to clear the submission history of the previous submission.

  9. File by Internet screen will be displayed for you to start the submission process.

Submitting CT600 tax returns again where the original submission has been deleted by HMRC:

Usually, once you have sent an original submission, HMRC may ask you to send an amendment return in case of any changes or corrections.

We have come across instance where a Customer has submitted an original CT600 tax return and HMRC have written back to them that they have deleted the original tax return from their system for some reasons and the customer is required to submit a corrected tax return.

In this instance, since HMRC have deleted the original return from their system, you will have to resubmit an original tax return again and not amended tax return.

To resubmit another Original tax return, you need to do the following:
  1. Start the software and open the record for which you want to submit an original return again.

  2. On the 'Company Information' screen, select the Accounting Period you want to amend, click 'Edit Period' and select 'Tax return type' of 'New'

  3. Open the Accounting Period

  4. Make any amendments to the returns as you want. Clicking 'Next' and 'Finish' in all sections to the end.

  6. A 'File by internet details' screen will be displayed with submission receipt of the last submission. Ensure the correct submission receipt is selected.

  7. Click 'Clear' and confirm 'Yes' on the message box to clear the submission history of the previous submission.

  8. File by Internet screen will be displayed for you to start the submission process.

This will allow you to resubmit the return as an original tax return.
